Why not link your visit to Columbus in with one of the many regional events that make it such a wonderful city in which to live? There are of course the all-American favorites of labor day, 4th of July and Thanks giving, but these are just the tip of a large and very exciting iceberg. There are loads and loads of other things to do. From the annual parades of the many varied ethnic and inter national groups of Columbus, to the local festivals of music, dance and comedy, there is something here for any person who wishes to enjoy life to the full.

For animal lovers, Columbus Zoo holds an annual family night. There will be ents, music, fun and face-painting as Columbus goes wild for its favorite animal-based attraction. Stars of TV will be out in force to see the tigers, lions and every other kind of animal big and small growling, grunting and being fed for the thrilled masses. The event takes place in August and is sure ot be a hit with families and anyone else who loves to see the wildest of beasts in a recreation of their homes.

Another animal- based event in Columbus occurs throughout September. Blooms and Butterflies celebrates butterflies from around the world. You can participate in a true educational experience while enjoying the beauty of the butterflies and the Franklin Park gardens and grounds. Let a giant one land on your shoulder or take a close-up look at a red admiral as it flutters past your shoe. All in all it’s worth a flutter.

There is also the Columbus Writers’ conference. Now in its fifteenth year, this wonderful celebration of all things wordy is a great chance for you to take part in workshops, meet writers and publishers or push your work into the satchels of agents as they pass you in the car park. It takes place in August in the Fawcett Center.
